Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring?

Just yourself in comfortable athletic clothing and sneakers. All fencing equipment (mask, jacket, glove, weapon) is provided by NCF.

How long is the trial lesson?

Approximately one hour. You will learn basic footwork, blade work, and may have the opportunity to fence a bout by the end.

Is it really free?

Yes. Your first lesson is completely free with no obligation. Equipment is included. This is how we have welcomed new fencers for 47 years.

What age do you accept?

We accept fencers ages 7 and up. Both youth and adult beginners are welcome for trial lessons.

What happens after the trial?

If fencing clicks, the next step is our 6-Week Intro Course, a structured curriculum before committing to a monthly program. See our pricing page for current rates. No pressure.

I've never heard of fencing. Is it a real sport?

Fencing has been in every modern Olympic Games since 1896. There are 45 NCAA fencing programs at schools like Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, and Duke. It is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in the United States.
